PPHS South Bend Launches Innovative Learning Experience “World Simulation” to Kick Off School Year

South Bend, IN, August 9, 2024—PPHS South Bend (PPHS SB) launched an innovative educational learning experience called the “World Simulation,” engaging over 150 high school students in a week-long, hands-on learning experience. This immersive project, held during the first week of school, was designed to teach students about global relations through simulations of alliances, trade, conflicts, and responses to natural disasters.

Conceived by teachers Coach Rebecca Evans and Coach “Mo” Moranda Hegedus, the World Simulation aimed to provide a real-world understanding of how countries gain power and influence. Students were assigned roles within mock governments and participated in activities that required them to navigate complex global interactions. The project emphasized critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership—key components of PPHS SB’s educational philosophy.

“This simulation was more than just a game; it was an opportunity for our students to step into the roles of global leaders and learn by doing,” said Courtney Dobrzykowski, Community Outreach Coordinator at PPHS South Bend. “The level of engagement and insight demonstrated by our students was truly impressive, and we believe this experience will have a lasting impact on their education.”

The impact of the World Simulation was immediately evident, both in the classroom and at home. According to Principal Justin Zobrosky, one student shared, “I am glad we’re doing this. Normally, I wouldn’t be talking to anyone. But this has made me step out of my comfort zone and make friends.” A parent echoed this sentiment: "Every day, he comes home, and all he talks about is what he’s got going on in school.”

In addition to the success of the World Simulation, PPHS South Bend is also celebrating another milestone: 100% staff retention from the 2023-2024 to the 2024-2025 school year. “I’m incredibly proud of this achievement,” said Justin Zobrosky, Principal at PPHS SB. “Not many schools can say they’ve kept their entire staff, which speaks volumes about our culture and the experience we offer here.”

The World Simulation and the school’s strong staff retention rate underscore PPHS SB’s commitment to creating a vibrant and supportive learning environment, setting a new standard for innovation in education.
