Day in the Life of a PPHS Coach

WHAT IS THE DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PPHS COACH?

Coaches meet with their Advisory Coach in their Advisory class, our version of a homeroom, to identify student goals, monitor their progress, discuss current events, and check in on their well-being.

From there, our coaches teach students how to think, not what to think, fostering an environment of rigorous academic exploration. Coaches also engage with students on projects, which is considered one of the many best parts of the day: passion projects, community projects, clubs, or internships with community partners.

Students can engage in projects that are of passion and interest to them. The following are examples of projects used in past cycles to increase student engagement and exploration:

Are you a chess master? Join Coach Molinar in his “Capture the King” chess project.

Passionate about entrepreneurship? Check out Coach William’s “Entrepreneurship Summit” project.

Movie Buff? You might enjoy Coach Longest’s project on 1950s history through the lens of Back to the Future.

Love the outdoors? Join Coach Mundy’s Urban Agriculture project to grow and harvest plants at the PPHS Englewood Garden in partnership with Patachou Foundation.

While these are some options, be sure to ask what options are available this cycle.
