Purdue Polytechnic High School Teachers win Indianapolis Make48 Challenge

A team of Purdue Polytechnic High School educators joined forces to compete and win the Indianapolis Make48 Challenge which premiered on 2/10 at 7 pm EST and is now available on YouTube. The Make48 Challenge is a 48-hour competition where teams work together to create a working prototype, marketing plan and pitch their idea to a panel of judges.

The winning team, named the Mallorys for the renovated PR Mallory building that serves as the school building for PPHS Schweitzer Center at Englewood, was comprised of…

  • Drew Goodin, Lead Coach
  • Gregg Nowling, Engineering & Design Coach
  • Andy Mundell, STEM & Robotics Coach
  • Amanda Bowling, School Nurse

The challenge Team Mallory faced was to build and create a better medical stand. Their solution included an aesthetically beautiful planter, which housed a hidden IV pole, pump compartment, and stand for an iPad or phone for telemedicine appointments. Gregg Nowling shared, “As teachers, we teach this process, so for us to be able to do in 48 hours what we spend 6 weeks doing with our students has been really life-affirming that we really know what we’re doing and the process works and proving that it’s really not ‘those who can’t do - teach’.

The winning teams are provided the opportunity to compete in the National Championship which will be held at Witchita State University’s 18,000 square foot Makerspace in March 2022.
